Reiki

There are many spiritual traditions that honour the idea of “Full Enlightenment”. The word “Buddha” means “Awakened One”. The mind of enlightenment is omniscient; it pervades the whole of space and time and perceives the true nature of all phenomena directly and simultaneously. It is the synthesis of the greatest peace, joy, love, compassion, and wisdom.

Buddha’s main purpose is to prevent or relieve suffering and bring all living beings to the same state of complete consciousness or wholeness, if that is what they wish. Many other followers of other religions would equate these ideas with their own perception or experience of God. Perhaps, then, the gift of Reiki as a healing technique is simply an expression or emanation of loving-kindness; a form of blessing. Empowerment, and connection to a higher source that is close to our own true nature, and that has our best intentions at heart.

It is difficult to confine Reiki to a convenient definition and it would only have a limited value. When we receive Reiki, it appears to come from an external source. It does not matter whether we believe that it comes from an external creator, or is a reflection of our own higher nature or greatest potential. There are no belief systems or dogma attached to Reiki. It is taught and practised in almost every country of the world. Its peaceful, healing intelligence extends beyond religious, cultural, and political boundaries. Reiki is an experiential phenomenon, uniquely personal, yet completely universal

Reiki fits perfectly into any lifestyle materially, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Reiki gives us exactly what we need as individuals, helping us develop our unique qualities, talents and ambitions in a way that brings us closer to our limitless potential and inner nature and peace. Any explanation of what Reiki is or what it can do is merely scratching the surface.

For some people Reiki is simply a useful healing technique. For others it may be a complement to their current spiritual path or actually a path to spiritual and personal growth itself. We all carry within us the ability to heal ourselves and others. Some people can access this quite easily through prayer and meditation without Reiki. Reiki is not essential in order to develop an ability to heal or to advance along the spiritual path, but it can greatly assist.

Reiki is the name given to a simple yet profound system of natural healing for body and mind which was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui who lived in Japan during the nineteenth century. Rei means “universal and ki, or chi, in Chinese, means “Life Force Energy”. Many people also regard Reiki as a path to personal and spiritual growth.

Life Force Energy is the foundation of all life, a sort of subtle cosmic soup that supports, nourishes, and sustains the cycle of birth, life, and death of all living things. When we are in touch with this energy through prayer, meditation, or Reiki, we feel less separate and increasingly whole within ourselves and within the whole of creation. We experience a sense of unity, we become more aware of our place or role in the great scheme of things and at the same time we feel supported, safe, open, and confident in our abilities to be all that we are, without doubt or apology. We can say that these spiritual or personal experiences are the Essence of Reiki as opposed to the Form that are the actual physical and mental methods for using and sharing Reiki.

When Internal and External Life Forces are in harmony, possess the same level of purity, and exist on the same wavelength or frequency, they are very similar energies. The only difference is that Internal Life Force Energy has consciousness or mind, and cannot exist separately from it.

Due to the close relationship between consciousness and Internal Life Force Energy it is easy to believe that the closeness or companionship we feel towards trees, crystals, the Earth, or other sources of External Life Force Energy is because they possess a personal character or mind.

Reiki has touched and shaped many lives and part of the path of Reiki is finding out, from our own experience, how to make the most of this precious gift and share it with others.
